How do I know if my plenum plate has failed?

If you have a sudden loss of gas mileage, excessive oil consumption, rough running or low power, your Factory Plenum Plate Gasket may have failed.
In addition to the above symptoms, it can cause O2 Sensors to fail, it can cause detonation (pinging) and ruin your catalytic converter.

A quick check to see of your plenum plate is leaking is to remove the air box from the throttle body and open the butterflys and look down into the bottom of the manifold and see if there's ANY oil pooled on the bottom of the manifold.

If you see any, then it's almost certain your plenum plate gasket has failed and it's time to replace the factory plate with this new Precision Aluminum Repair Plate.

Why do plenum plates fail in the first place?

This is due to the different rates of expansion and contraction of the dissimilar metals used by the Factory.

When the engine heats up to operating temperature, the aluminum intake manifold expands differently than the steel stamped factory plenum plate and this will cause the gasket to fail by moving out from in between the plate and the manifold.

It only takes a small gap in this gasket seal for the intake system to suck oil from the lifter valley and into the intake system and combustion chamber.
